Workshop ‘From Waste to Wonder’

In this creative workshop, children discover how to turn leftover materials such as coffee grounds into real toys. Sustainable, educational and above all great fun!

Under the guidance of designer Jamie van Duuren, children learn step by step how to make new toys from bio-waste and circular raw materials. We start with a short introduction: what are we going to make, why are we doing this and which materials will we use? Then we dive into recipe 1. Jamie shows you how it works and then it’s your turn: you make a 2D toy with cookie cutters from bio-waste sheet material.

Next, we move on to recipe 2. After Jamie’s demonstration, you make a 3D toy using moulds, or you dream up your very own fantasy creation. Anything goes! At the end we tidy up together (because that’s part of it too) and finish with a cosy reflection round, where everyone can show and talk about what they have made. This way children learn through play that waste is not worthless, but a source of endless possibilities!

Practical information
-Workshop at The Discovery Factory
-Sunday 23 November 2025 from 10:00 to 13:00
-Age: 7 to 16 years (with or without a parent/carer)
-Minimum 8 children / maximum 20–25 children (+ parents)
-Ticket: €25 per child + maximum 1 parent/carer
-Optional: have your toy delivered to your home for €10 (available as an extra option in our ticket shop)
-Free cancellation up to and including 20 November 2025
-If you would like to explore the rest of The Discovery Factory after the workshop, you will need a separate ticket.
-Food and drinks brought from home may not be consumed at The Discovery Factory. Our café is open from 11:00 for something tasty.

Good to know
The toys need to dry first, so they cannot go home with you straight away. You can collect them later at the Microlab (a five-minute walk from The Discovery Factory) or have them sent to you (available as an extra option in our ticket shop).
