Inquiry and design-based learning

During your visit, The Discovery Factory is one big open workshop where pupils design and build their own invention. We work according to the principle of inquiry and design-based learning (O&O). By building and experimenting you arrive at an idea and keep developing it further.

CONTENT: What are we going to do?

We will get to work on the challenge from De Uitvinders and Het Verborgen Oog:

Come up with an invention that makes the world a better or more fun place.

We start together by gathering inspiration and holding a short brainstorm. Pupils are shown around the workshop (the scrap corner, fretsaws, die-cutting machine and craft supplies). While they build, the adventure guides inspire pupils with examples of common joints and clever use of materials and techniques. After building, you create your own ‘world exhibition’, where pupils briefly present their inventions to each other.

The Inventors Competition

Free option: From here it is only a small step to show your invention online as well. Who knows, you might be spotted by the jury of the annual Inventors Competition! Then you get to present your invention at the final event at The Discovery Factory. And the whole class is invited!
